The white feathers and bright orange beak of the American white pelican against the dark water caught my attention. As the bird splashed, I took several photos and I knew immediately I would paint this scene. The pelican’s pose created a dynamic triangle with his eye as the focal point. The bubbles in the water create texture, movement and leading lines to draw the viewer’s eye around the painting. This is transparent watercolor on Arches paper.
