Sparrow and Sparrowhawk

Oil on linen. I drew inspiration for this painting from the sparrowhawks I would see swooping down from above, elegant and streamlined, when I was a child playing in the fileds and woods in the rural community where I spent part of my childhood. We would always feed the small birds around to get them through winter, and that gave me an opportunity to study the little sparrows up close. In this painting, I wanted to give a glimpse into the lives of these birds, intimate and dramatic.
