The actual location upon which this painting is based is Calafia State Park in San Clemente, California. I was struck one day by the silhouettes of the dark palm tree shapes against the pure lights of the clouds, and it is that relationship of shapes that form the backbone of this painting. At the actual site, the ocean is behind the viewer--for the painting, I moved it out into his/her line of sight.
