Dune Shadows

The inspiration for this oil painting came from a plein air study that I did this fall on Ocracoke Island, NC. I was drawn to the rich, blue shadows on the dunes and the interesting patterns that they made. It was a joy to paint this scene on a larger canvas with larger brushes. I could still hear the ocean waves behind me and feel the early morning sunlight.
