This oil painting was started en plein air in a beautiful Chesapeake, VA state park, and finished in the studio. On location, the backlit fall colors overwhelmed the eye and added an ephemeral pop of light over the shaded trail. My deeper inspiration was the literal path the viewer is taking through a moment in time in nature; walking past this fall fire and over the bridge, and the possibilities that lie across the bridge that are yet to be seen.
